New Beginnings

New Beginnings

9 months, a new job, new apartment, school and city later, I’ve finally found time to write a much-needed post for my blog.

It’s been a hectic couple of months with working full-time at Ardene, trying to find an apartment that suits my living needs, getting everything organized for the Journalism program at Ryerson (which I’m very thrilled for). It’s hard to believe I’m moving into my apartment in Toronto on Friday, and starting classes the following Tuesday. Yet also very exciting (and possibly a bit nerve-racking).

September always has its ups and downs. Starting a new life somewhere new can be intoxicating and eye-popping, but it is also scary and kinda morbid. Leaving the old life behind, as well as the people can be a difficult path to accomplish. Having to start all over again at basically everything has its own set of fears, but it’s also appealing.

For example buying stuff for my new apartment gives me a rush of joy, making it eye-catching and just all around me makes it easier to move away. I think I might have a little bit of a spending problem in terms on apartment shopping, yet it’s worth the money (hopefully). Buying bundles of decorative pillows, a new desk, art for the wall, and a bunch of other goods helps.

Toronto is a never sleeping all out adventerous city to live in, and I’m very excited for what chapter comes next in my life.

However scary new beginnings can be, they are also very rewarding. With the new life I’m heading into, I’m going to try to write more posts. It’s been way too long since the last one.

Have a lovely day.

One Lovely Blog Award

One Lovely Blog Award

Hello fellow friends.

A huge thanks to confessionsofanartteacher for nominating me for the One Lovely Blog Award. For other bloggers to actually notice my little space on the web, is quite frankly a humble and very enjoyable feeling. I’m very appreciative to you all who actually takes time to peek at my posts.

Okay now down to business.

  1. Show appreciation by thanking the person who nominated you
  2. Show these rules
  3. 7 Facts About Yourself
  4. Nominate 15 Bloggers who you think have a Lovely Blog
  5. Comment on one of their posts to let them know

I’m a twin. Yes, there’s another person in the world who’s a replica of me, but just call her Megan 2.0 (just kidding, her name is Catherine).

Pizza is number one on my favourite foods list. If I was able to eat pizza 24/7, trust me I would. But then again I’d probably be the size of a house (so maybe not). Seriously though, the Italians win my heart for inventing the yummiest food ever.

I find rain so soothing and refreshing. When it rains most people run for shelter. But not me. The feel of rain drops splattering on my face is truly so relaxing. Also, the sound of it on my roof at night is definitely my lullaby.

I’m getting a puppy :D. I’m so psyched to add a new member to my family, and just before Christmas as well. It’s perfect.

I was in Amsterdam a little under a month ago. It is such a beautiful and historic city to vacation in, and with so many different wonderful attractions to tour, I’d have to say one of the nicest places I’ve ever been. If you ever have a chance, go visit the city of clogs and the red light district. But just don’t get hit by a bike, cause well, it nearly happened to me once or twice.

I love Pilates. In my free time, I love to roll out my yoga mat and spend an hour Pilate-ing the life out of my body. It’s truly a very relaxing and rewarding experience. Also, if you ever have a chance, check out Blogilates. She has the ultimate Pilates videos on the web. You’ll be sweating and cursing at the screen before you know it. 😉

I used to live in England. For three years, I called the land of tiny roads and weird accents my home. To be more specific, I lived in Yorkshire. It’s such a beautiful part of the world, and I miss it all the time.

It was a lot harder than I thought to think of seven facts about myself, I hope these do justice. So down to the people I nominate for the One Lovely Blog Award.

Tattoo Inspiration

Tattoo Inspiration

Hey beauties.

If you’re looking to permanently mark your body, but the nerves are getting to you, then luckily I have endless inspiration of appealing tattoos that will leave you feeling less anxious about expressing something on your skin.

Some people feel that marking your skin in seen as a sin, but tattoos can have significant meaning to your life. There are plenty of reasons to do it: the birth of your children, to commemorate lost loved ones, honour your heritage. But it’s still perfectly okay to get a tattoo with no meaning, maybe you just liked the design and want to show it off.

Whether you’re looking for a mark with meaning or a fun design, keep reading to check out these tattoo ideas.

442ececcc7225a954b2832d11436603b 525e78c514bc4f4da431941911063d74

The first pic is of my tattoo, I got it two years ago when I turned 18. There is no real meaning behind it, I just loved the look of it. But if you’re looking for a meaning, and if you want dove tattoos, then they can symbolize purity, peace, love, goodwill and faith. They often fly away to also mean a fresh start in life.

bb3512690a4fcf696a9188851a54fac4 f65a845dcb67142b3a7f3991291292f2

This tattoo actually has quite a significant meaning. Us females wear them in our hair and clothes as a sign of femininity. It’s logical to think it would have the same meaning as a tattoo. Yes, it does symbolize femininity, but also remembrance, strength, love, beauty, and union.

Native Americans believe the feather tattoo offers protection against evil spirits. It can also be a symbol of intelligence and mystery, like magic and the world of sorcery. But some people get it cause they like to design, and well, it has a pretty attractive look to it.

Whether it be a quote from your favourite song, or a word is another language, this tattoo can have such a personal meaning.

Dream catchers.

This tattoo is also popular is Native American cultures. A dream catcher is usually hung in a bedroom, above a bed, or sometimes above a door. The idea is that happy, optimistic dreams will pass through the night, while the negative dreams will become trapped. The tattoo has roughly the same meaning, protection against harmful dreams.

Roses are a beautiful flower, but what do they symbolize? Well when the rose is without thorns it can be a symbol of being in love, but with thorns is a reminder that love does not come without sacrifices. But that’s get one meaning. Sailors symbolize the tattoo as an honorary purpose, like to represent their wife or girlfriend. The colour you choose can have different meanings as well. So before you get a rose inked, do some research to figure out the meaning. 🙂

Yorkshire Rose.

ef422fbff65308d4fa55e397353a0c5d 79a8670343ad0502dc77201f2e2a806c

Similar to the rose tattoo, but the Yorkshire rose symbolizes heritage and ancestry. The White Rose of York (also known as the Yorkshire rose), is the symbol of the House of York and has yet been adopted as a symbol of Yorkshire, England. I’m from Yorkshire, so I want to get this tattoo eventually.

Solar system.

d46eb022719efc7e97139b41dbd7a851 549cf9696a33c23fe8e6ac671bd02b8b

The solar system and galaxies beyond holds deep meanings for people, hence why so many people get cosmic tattoos. Personally I’ve always loved the idea of space, and to get the planets tattooed is a really neat and creative idea. Each planet holds significant meaning as well. Lets take Mercury for example, earth it its element, and its nature is cold and dry. The planet rules Virgo and Gemini. Also mercury is in analogy with the arms, the hands and the nervous system. Check it out here to find all the planets meanings.

Dog paw print.

898a840184bcb7ce084aa12a1ea33f82 fc6dffb4f7b2b1bf6bfb494d7dbb027e

The paw print tattoo holds a personal meaning if it memorializes a pet. Whether you had a dog, a cat, a rabbit or any other pet, it is possible to get a paw print of that animal tattooed in remembrance of your pet. My dog died about three weeks ago, and I really want to get her paw print tattooed on my wrist as soon as I can. But I want to add a paisley design in the print, just cause I really like the look of it.

Semicolon tattoo.

b7f2411e6fb5c24e0e5709d97452f23c dfd5749724cd7339cbcbb0465a8f351e

This tattoo has gained great popularity in the recent years, but holds a serious meaning behind it. The mark represents mental health struggles and the importance of suicide prevention. But why a semicolon? A semicolon is used when an author could’ve chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you and the sentence is your life.

Travel tattoo.

e9165c19d569c152473db20060908f0a daab0b3b7570b9b4d59facc732e0920c

If you really like traveling, then getting either a plane or the planet (or both) tattooed on your skin is a really good idea. Instead of buying magnets as a souvenir, maybe opt for a tattoo instead next time.

I hope this post helped you tattoo addicts with inspiration on what to get inked next, or you newbies on what tattoo should be your first. I know I really want to run to the nearest tattoo parlour right now. Have fun getting inked. 🙂

Real Neat Blog Award

Real Neat Blog Award

Hey all.

Thanks to the wonderful Megan Hurst, I was nominated for the Real Neat Blog Award. Seeing as this is the second award I’ve been nominated for, it gives me such a rush of happiness, I just love blogging so much. 😀

So before I get started, here are the rules for this award:

  1. Put the award logo on your blog.
  2. Answer 7 questions asked by the person who nominated you.
  3. Thank the person who nominated you, linking to their blog.
  4. Nominate any number of bloggers you like, linking to their blog.
  5. Let them know you nominated them.

Onto my answers:

1. Who is your main style inspo?

I’d have to say Vanessa Hudgens and the “old” Miley Cyrus. Both of them had such an effortless, chic and of course boho look about them, I just love everything about their style.

2. If you could live anywhere, where would you live?

It’s a tie between Australia and England. One of my best friends just moved to Australia so I’d love to see him again, and half of my family lives in England so I’d also love to be with them as well. Tricky choice to pick.

3. What is your favourite shop?

I used to have an obsession with American Eagle and Brandy Melville, that’s basically my whole closet. But right now I’m really fond of Banana Republic and Aritzia. 🙂

4. What do you want to do more?

Traveling. Next summer I just want to go with a few friends and back pack across Europe for a month or so, to be adventurous and see what other parts this land has to offer.

5. What is your current favourite accessory or piece this season?

My all time favourite summer piece was jogger pants, this article of clothing is so comfy and cute, and can and will be worn in the fall. But for Autumn I’d have to go with boots. I love all things boots~ over the knee, ankle boots, booties with a heel, Hunter rain boots, my Timberland boots for the cooler weather ~ strutting down the street in them makes me feel like a fashionista.

The blogs that I nominate are:

just another girl on planet earth

That Trendy Redhead

My questions are as follows:

  1. Pencil or liquid eyeliner?
  2. Name one thing you want to do before you die…
  3. If you had one personal “selfish” wish, what would it be and why?
  4. Favourite makeup brand?
  5. Who is your fashion role model?

Can’t wait to read your answers. 🙂

September Goals

September Goals

A new month means a new and improved me, It also means no more summer, so goodbye heat and hello fresh fall weather. It’s time to set out to accomplish meaningful and productive goals, ones that’ll make me happier and make my life that much better.

My summer was quite fun; I saw many of my wonderful friends, went to a few parties and might have gotten a bit tipsy, went camping with my besties, and I’d have to say bonfires would be at the top of my list. Mostly every weekend we’d have one in either the forest or my friends back yard, but it’s time to put those memories behind me and produce new ones.

Having goals makes you that much more driven to do the best you can possibly do, and it will definitely excite you. This past week has been pretty horrible, my little dog died and one of my best friends moved to Australia, so I’ve kinda been down in the dumps, however getting out of my little funk and setting my mind on positive goals has lifted my spirits.

So here are my goals for this month of September. 🙂

Exercise at least 4 times a week.

Blasting my stereo and doing pilates definitely makes me happy (well maybe after my workout is completed). Knowing that I’m trying my hardest to get my body into something that I can be proud of and want to show off keeps me motivated.

Eat clean and healthy.

Deleting junk food from my diet and substituting it with healthy alternatives is a goal that is most definitely a hard one to accomplish, but has the best results. Eating a piece of pizza or a slice of cake might make you happy in that moment of time, but guilt will soon follow. So if you stick with the goal and eat healthy there will be no regrets, just smiles. Remember~ a moment on your lips… forever on your hips.

Work, work and more work.

Going to work and being productive gets my mind off things, it helps build my confidence, and of course roles in the money. I just got a job at Ardene, a retail store, and am really enjoying it so far. So thumbs up for working.

Writing my posts and getting feedback from you guys definitely boosts my mood. So I’m going to try to post at least 5 times a week, I’ll try everyday but sometimes life gets in the way.

Spending money probably shouldn’t be one of my goals, but buying new clothes is one thing that excites me to no end. I really need new fall clothes, shoes, and basically everything anyway, so I’m going to go on a splurge and buy many things (in reason… hopefully).

Apply to University.

I really want to attend University of Toronto in January for English, and the applying period is in September, so that is one thing I’m really thrilled about. Actually having a goal for my life is probably one of the most fulfilling feelings.

Just smile as much as I possibly can. 😀

What are your goals for September?

Miss You Always and Forever

Miss You Always and Forever

To love a dog is truly the meaning of unconditional love. They grasp on to a piece of your heart, and never let go. Many people walk in and out of your life, but only true friends leave footprints. You love them so dearly and profoundly, that when they become lost, a deep dark hole centres in your heart.

To some people dogs are just pets; but they’re so much more than that. They are a valuable member of your family who’ve stuck by you through thick and thin. The loyalty they have for you has such a deep profound meaning, these beautiful creatures would go to hell and back for you, no matter the outcome for themselves.

Truly, whoever said diamonds are a girls best friend, never owned a dog. My family’s little black cockapoo, Annie, was loved by us all so greatly, for 12 years she made our lives that much better, she loved us unconditionally and stuck by us through every obstacle.

We cherish every moment we shared with her; when she would bark at early hours in the morning for her food, when she greeted us at the door with so much welcome and love, when she would always drop her ball in the laundry basket and basically chock herself trying to get it back, or when she got her ball stuck under the couch and would bark at it until someone got it for her, when she would attack the rabbits cage whenever she had a chance, or go for walk a bouts around the neighbourhood by herself, to list a few, these memories definitely puts a smile on my face.

It has only been four days, so her death is still really fresh. Something that I’m trying my hardest to accept and get used to. But it’s hard to walk through the door and not see her, to see my other dog Bentley alone without his buddy, and the quietness that has become deafening. Dealing with this process is hard… very hard.

Some people bury their emotions deep down, and pretend that their little doggies life never happened. But you can’t just erase twelve years from your existence, you need to face the long hard truth, and deal with it in the best way possible.

Cry for your devastating loss, and smile at the happy memories you have created with them. It’s okay to laugh at this horrible time in your life, don’t feel guilty about doing fun things, or letting yourself feel joy. You will not be ruining their memory by doing this, but actually the total opposite. Living your life in the best way possible is the ultimate way to honour your dogs memory.

To help you move on maybe create a little memorial for your lost one, write down your feelings in a journal or a blog, keep yourself busy with work, school, cleaning, or possibly working out, maybe get a puppy, this will definitely ease your pain by having another four-legged creature to love and take care of. Over time the pain will ease down, the crying will slowly stop, but their memory will never fade.

To my little angel~

I am so very thankful for those paw prints on my floor, the slobbery kisses on my face and the loveable hugs, because those days are so profoundly missed.

When I close my eyes I see you, and when I open my eyes I miss you.

The memories that we have of you are so happy, vibrant, sweet and maybe at times a wee bit mischievous, but all the same makes me cherish the valuable time we had with you.

You taught me so much more than I could have expected and loved me so much more than I hoped for.

When I feel you in my heart, I’ll just look up, and will know you’ll be right there.

This is not goodbye… It’s still “I love you… Forever.”

Rest in paradise my beautiful Annie.

To say the least I’ve been lacking inspiration on what words to put on my screen for the past week, writers block definitely has a devilish thing about itself. I was staring at my computer for what felt like a century, yet nothing interesting or creative popped in my mind.

The Liebster Award

The Liebster Award

Hello beautiful people.

Today I was nominated for The Liebster Award by the lovely blogger sincerely, kaytee. Thank you so much 🙂 I have only been blogging for about a month and a half, so being nominated for this award is such a wonderful feeling. I’m very pleased that people actually want to hear what I have to say.

I haven’t heard of this award till this morning, so for you guys who haven’t either, here is how it works:

  • Link back to the person who nominated you
  • Answer the 11 questions given to you by the nominator
  • Display the Liebster award logo in your post
  • Nominate up to 11 other bloggers with less than 200 followers
  • Create 11 questions for the nominees
  • Notify all nominees via social media/blogs

Here are my answers:

1. What is the strangest thing you believed as a child?

Fairies! Mystical right. I remember me and my sister used to have these fairy ornaments, we believed that when we weren’t looking they would come to life and fly around, so we would always try to catch them by surprise, yet sadly it never worked (obviously). But we couldn’t touch their wings at all, because if we did they would turn to dust.

2. Are you more likely to engage in conflict or avoid it completely?

Personally I do my best to avoid it as much as possible, for instance if my friends get into a huge fight I always try to be neutral between the two. But if conflict finds me I’ll engage in it and try to resolve the problem, and not just walk away, which has been happening a lot lately (sigh).

3. Name 3 things in nature you find most beautiful

First of all I absolutely love nature, getting out of the house and going for an adventure in nature is so calming and peaceful. So, the three things I find most beautiful is firstly water; the sound of water has always been a stress relief of mine, and I love taking the occasional dip in the creek near my house with my friends. The second thing is the forest; walking through untouched trails and finding that perfect spot to have a bonfire with my friends definitely has a very beautiful and unique quality about it. Last but not least finding flowers is so beautiful.

4. What was your last impulse purchase?

Well, considering I have a huge problem with shopping I definitely have a few impulse buys. But my latest one is two pairs of shorts from RW&CO. But don’t worry they were both on sale (thank god).

5. How do you typically spend your Sundays?

Sleeping! Well, only if I have a huge hangover from Saturday night (which sucks). If not I usually try to get out of the house with either my family or friends. Like go for a walk, shopping, go out for lunch, or any other excursion. However at times my mother likes to take up all of Sunday cleaning.

6. Which is a stronger emotion for you: anger or love?

Definitely love. It takes a lot for someone to make me angry, they have to do something really bad. But when I do get mad it can be kinda scary, probably because of all the pent-up emotions.

7. If you could bring one musician back from the dead, who would it be?

There are so many I’m thinking of, but the one person that I’d bring back is Cory Monteith. Glee used to be one of my favourite shows, and when I heard about his death it was such a horrible and drastic surprise that shook me to my core. He had such an amazing talent that was just wasted away because of booze and drugs. But to this day I still watch him on Glee because he was so amazing.

8. If you could master one skill, what would it be?

To be able to draw so realistically that people would think they’re looking at a photo rather than a drawing.

9. What is your favourite holiday and why?

I’d have to say Christmas. I just love it when my whole family comes together, the Christmas dinner is always so yummy (the crackers are the best), when it snows on Christmas morning, going shopping for presents is so fun, dressing up all fancy like, getting drunk with your relatives, and of course opening gifts on Christmas day.

10. Which 1900’s era would you most want to travel back to?

This is a hard one, never really given that a good thought. But I would have to say the Roaring Twenties. Basically because I watched the Great Gatsby a few days ago, and it looked like such a fun era to live in with the flappers and the music, and women also won the right to vote in the Twenties.

11. What words of wisdom would you pass onto your childhood self?

Some people aren’t meant to be in our lives forever. Some are just passing through to teach us a lesson.

Here are my nominees:

Gitter Cutie

Blue Door Design

Megan Hurst

No Damsel in Distress

And here are my questions:

  1. What would you do if you won the lottery?
  2. If you could live anywhere, where would that be?
  3. What do you prefer: sunrises or sunsets?
  4. Do you like scary movies?
  5. What did you want to be when you grew up?
  6. If you could ask your future self one question what would it be?
  7. Do you hold grudges?
  8. What was the last thing you took a picture of?
  9. Can you down a pint (of anything) in one?
  10. If a tree falls in the forest and there’s no one around to hear it does it make a noise?
  11. Do you have any unusual fears or phobias?

Have fun answering the questions, I know I did. Can’t wait to read all of your answers. 🙂

30 Inspirational Quotes to Live By

Body Image. This specific issue has plagued a very big percentage of the population, almost everyone has had negative thoughts when looking at their reflection. Due to the media, images have been distorted so that a normal body image is seen as ugly and unwanted, while an unhealthy body image is seen as beautiful.

Due to how powerful and widespread the messages are about the ideal body, it affects females at a very young age. There are many factors that go into the development of a body image; like low self-esteem, eating disorders, plastic surgery and excessive exercise.

The media influences us at a very young age nowadays, due to how common it is anyone can go online or look at ads on TV or a magazine and see stick thin models who portray what the media defines as the ideal body, then these individuals go to improper methods such as dieting and exercising to lose weight.

One the main sources that mainly females find information of beauty and fitness is in fashion magazines, adolescents who read them are more likely to engage in weight management behaviours such as skipping meals and exercise. It seems that no matter what girls watch or read there will always be an aspect of the ideal body image that will always be distorted in their minds of what they think is beautiful, but in reality those images are unhealthy and unrealistic and can be very damaging to a young persons body and mind.

Not only has media changed what the ideal body should look like, it has also affected a lot of females in many other ways. There are so many factors going into the development of a person’s body image. Self-esteem is considered to be a significant element, media damages a women’s confidence greatly.

If a person does not have the ideal body image they are seen as ugly and fat. This can do extensive harm to a females self-esteem, which can lead to many other issues down the road. The most significant effects the media has on females is a wide range of eating disorders and cosmetic surgery. Both of these things can really impact a women’s life, so much that these problems can later lead to rehab and possibly even death.

Body image has also changed greatly throughout history, in these modern times ultra-thin bodies are considered beautiful and desirable, yet in the past females with curves and with some fat on their bones had the ideal body.

The media is in fact making it that much more difficult for people to accept their physique and actually come to the realization that they are in fact beautiful. In my opinion, this is such a big issue that really hasn’t has the attention it should be having. Media needs to realize how these images have affected so many people and put a stop to it before the issue develops into anything worse.
